Trump refuses to call Putin a dictator in Oval Office meeting

Staying in the Oval Office, the US president is asked if he will characterise Russian President Vladimir Putin as a "dictator", having previously used the word to describe Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I don't use those words lightly, we'll see how it all works out," Trump says, adding that they have a "chance of a very good settlement" between Ukraine and Russia.

An unresolved war between the two countries "could lead to World War Three", he says.

Meanwhile, Macron says they had a good discussion during a G7 call this morning, and that he will discuss "long-lasting peace" in Ukraine with Trump today.

Europe is willing to "step up" on defence, he adds, but "strong" US involvement is needed to ensure peace in Ukraine is achieved.
